Another big night in another big year for CBS. While nearly every network finished ahead of a year-ago on this same date, CBS was 6% ahead. The Tiffany Network finished #1 in each half hour. At 8P, ‘Survivor: Blood vs Water’ was watched by 10.1 million viewers bringing a 6.2 rating and a 10 share; ‘Criminal Minds’, the biggest show on the air at 9P and for the evening, had 12.29 million viewers for a 7.6/12. ‘CSI’ was also a winner at 10P with 11.03 million and a 6.9/12. CBS bested #2 ABC by 47%.
ABC +31% over last year on this same date. At 8P, ‘The Middle’ had 8.38 million viewers while at 830P, the already cancelled ‘Back in the Game’ wasn’t. It drew 6.08 million. At 9P, the power of The Alphabet Network on Wednesday, ‘Modern Family’ drew a network high of 10.03 million viewers. But at 930P, ‘Super Fun Night’ was not so super as it could only hold onto 52% of ‘Modern Family’s’ audience and finished with 5.67 million viewers. At 10P, ‘Nashville’ finished slightly better than last week but drew 5.62 million.
FOX was down 14% on this same date last year. At 8P, the entire evening was devoted to ‘The X Factor’ which finished 18% below last year on this date with 5.5 million viewers. This program is fading fast.
NBC was up 18% compared to the same date last year. AT 8P, ‘Revolution’ drew 5.25 million viewers but was ahead of last year’s programming in this time slot (‘Whitney’ and ‘Guys With Kids’) by 48%. At 9P, The Peacock Network’s top program of the evening, ‘Law & Order: SVU’ drew 5.92 million while finishing 18% ahead of last year on this same date. At 10P, ‘Dateline’ finished third with 4.77 million viewers. It was a big improvement for the suits at 30 Rock on Wednesday compared to a year ago.
The CW was 31% ahead of last year on this same date. ‘Arrow’ at 8P was the entire reason as it drew 2.53 million viewers. ‘The Tomorrow People’ disappointed everyone with 1.66 million viewers, down 38% from ‘Arrow’.
In late night, ‘Leno’ dominated with 3.2/9, a huge night for NBC. CBS’ ‘Letterman’ with a ;good average night drew 2.5/6 while ABC’s ‘Kimmel’ could only draw 2.0/5. At 1235A, ‘Fallon’ continued NBC’s hot late night with a 1.6/6; ‘Nightline’ on ABC had a 1.3/5 while CBS’ ‘Ferguson’ had a below average 1.1/4. AT 135A, ‘Last Call with Carson Daly’ pulled in a 0.9/4.
Top programs on cable Wednesday were ‘American Horror Story’ on FX at 10P with 3.995 million viewers and ‘American Pickers’ on the History Channel at 9P with 3.365 million . At 8P, ‘The O’Reilly Factor’ on FOX New Channel drew 3.272 million viewers. FOX News Channel was the #1 cable network on Wednesday with an average of 2.673 million viewers. TBS, with a strong dose of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ reruns was the #2 cable network for the evening with an average of 2.181 million people. A&E’s ‘Duck Dynasty’ running all six half hours of prime time, drew and average of 2,114,500 viewers. ESPN featuring NBA basketball drew 1.802 million for the first game in prime while the second game, beginning at 10P drew 2.069 million giving ESPN the #4 position for the evening with an average viewership of 1,935,000.
For the record, CBS was #1 with 11.138 million viewers and a 6.9 rating and a 12 share. ABC finished #2 with 6.902 million and a 4.7 rating and an 8 share. FOX had 5.501 million viewers and 4.2/7 (1.6 million fewer than on the comparable date last season) and NBC had 5.312 million viewers and a 3.9/7. Univision had 3.8 million viewers and a 1.9/3 while The CW finished with 2.097 million viewers and a 1.7/3. Telemundo drew 1.2 million and had a 0.7/1.
ACROSS THE POND: ITV finished on top of the ratings on Wednesday in the UK with ‘Mystery Map’ beginning the evening at 8P with 3.89 million viewers good for 17.9% share of the audience. But at 9P, the big hammer came out. ‘I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! pulled in 9.46 million for 40.2% share of the audience. An additional 353,000 (2.2%) watched it on +1.
BBC One really did stand a chance at 8P, ‘Farm Kitchen’ only drew 4.59 million (19.9%), good for #1 in the time period but ‘New Trick’ rerun at 9P could only draw 3.26 million viewers (13.4%).
BBC Two had ‘MasterChef: The Professionals’ at 8P with 2.96 million (12.8%) while at 9P, ‘Tudor Monastery Farm’ could only muster 1.61 million viewers (6.6%).
Channel 4 had ‘Location, Location, Location’ at 8P and only 1.26 million could find it (5.5%). At 9P, ’24 Hours in A&E’ drew 1.44 million (5.9%). At 10P, ‘Gogglebox’ fell to 1.18 million (6%).
Channel 5 had ‘Animal Clinic’ at 8P and drew 912,000 viewers (4%). At 9P, ‘Nazi Quest for the Holy Grail’ attracted slightly less with 863,000 watching it.
