Twitter Unveils Creative #Fuel To Help Brands With 6-second Ads. Twitter has launched a service for advertisers called #Fuel to help them create six-second video spots designed specifically for the platform. The new team is comprised of brand strategists forming “an agile, rapid-response hub that responds quickly to creative briefs,” Twitter says, and brands such as Macy’s and Converse have already trialed the service. According to Minda Smiley wrote in The Drum, ‘Twitter has unveiled a small in-house shop called #Fuel that will help brands create punchy, quick content for the platform. The new service comes as Twitter continues to face stagnant user growth and tries to compete with the Facebook-Google duopoly, which is expected to gobble up more than 60% of digital ad spend in the US this year, according to eMarketer. Twitter is hoping offerings like #Fuel will make the social platform more attractive to marketers, particularly since it will focus on helping brands create video content. In a blog post, Twitter’s head of content planning Stacy Minero said that #Fuel is an “agile, rapid-response hub that responds quickly to creative briefs.” As part of Twitter’s larger brand strategy team, #Fuel staffers will focus on developing content strategies for brands, coming up with creative ideas and editing video to ensure it’s optimized for Twitter. According to Twitter, #Fuel has already worked on 100 campaigns over the past few months with early brand partners, some of which include Converse and Macy’s. For example, Twitter helped Converse create its Public Access video series starring Game of Thrones actress Maisie Williams and Miley Cyrus, which launched exclusively on the platform last month. It also recently helped Macy’s repurpose the retailer’s fall fashion campaign by editing it to create short-form content customized for Twitter. “Video ads are Twitter’s top-selling format, but not every advertiser has the time, resources, or insights to create Twitter-specific ads,” said Minero in the blog post. “In response, we rolled out #Fuel’s editing services to optimize creative without losing impact for Twitter In-Stream Video Ads, Promoted Video, and ads that run in live-streaming.”
Remember, social media marketing isn’t always the tech. It’s the people.
Today, traditional TV still accounts for the lion’s share of video viewing, but online and mobile are where the growth is. When managed together, TV/digital/mobile hold the potential to drive real impact for advertisers—enabling them to maximize the customers they reach and/or reinforce key messaging across screens. After all, ‘It’s all about screens’.

Netflix Surges Past 100M Paid Memberships, Now Has More Internationally Than in the US
Netflix’s international business has overtaken its domestic one for the first time in paid membership, according to the streaming giant’s latest earnings report. The subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service added almost 5 million paid members during the third quarter, roughly 80% of which (almost 4 million) were outside the US. That vaulted the international paid membership base past the 50 million mark to almost 52.7 million, ahead of the US paid member count of 51.35 million. In combination, Netflix now has more than 104 million paying members worldwide, up from just over 99 million during the previous quarter. To give an idea as to how quickly Netflix’s international business is growing:
Paid memberships outside the US have more than doubled in just 2 years, since Q3 2015; while In the US, it has taken almost 5 years for Netflix to double its paid member count. Also as part of its earnings report, Netflix revealed that it plans to spend $7-8 billion on content next year, which would be at least $1 billion more than this year’s spending. The company sees its growth coming from exclusive original content, which now accounts for one-quarter of all content spending.
Univison is no longer on Verison Fios
At 5P today, Verizon pulled Univision’s signal from both its Fios and mobile platforms as contract extension talks stalled.
“Verizon chose to take this unprecedented action despite Univision’s offer of an extension of the current agreement,” the company said in a statement. Fios has about 5 million subscribers. But, as with other operators, it is losing video subscribers–15,000 in the most recent quarter. “We urge Verizon to put Univision back on and come back to the negotiating table and prove its commitment to the Hispanic community and show that it understands the value of Spanish-language programming,” the Univision statement continues. Fios had added two Caribbean TV channels–WAPA America and Televisión Dominicana–to the service for ongoing coverage of Hurricane Maria, but that special service ended today.
