Save Your Fav Tweets For Later? Coming Soon! Twitter, the social network that redefined the term “information overload,” is working on a feature that’ll make it easier to bookmark those cool tweets that deserve a second look. According to by Stan Schroeder in Mashable, and announced by several key Twitter employees, including product VP Keith Coleman, the new feature could be called “save for later.” According to Coleman, this has been a “top request,” and Twitter wants user feedback before they push out a final version of the feature. And Associate Product Manager at Twitter, Jesar Shah, has implied that the feature might first become available in Japan. As she pointed out, there are roundabout ways to bookmark a tweet, for example, you can DM it to yourself, like it or retweet it. But a dedicated “save for later” button is probably a better option than cluttering your direct messages and likes. Shah also shared an “early prototype” of the feature, but said the final version of the feature is “likely to change.” In her example, the feature is simply called “Bookmarks”. Remember, social media marketing isn’t always the tech. It’s the people.

Today, traditional TV still accounts for the lion’s share of video viewing, but online and mobile are where the growth is. When managed together, TV/digital/mobile hold the potential to drive real impact for advertisers—enabling them to maximize the customers they reach and/or reinforce key messaging across screens. After all, ‘It’s all about screens’.

Today In Communication History

On this date 1950, the FCC approved the CBS color TV system effective November 20. CBS had promised 20 hours of color programs a week within two months. This was the opening round of a long hard fight that RCA would eventually win with their Dot Sequential Color system. The FCC initially favored CBS’ color standard over RCA’s because it was technically superior, even though a significant drawback was that CBS’s color sets were not backward compatible with existing black and white sets. After consumers failed to buy CBS color sets, the FCC agreed to change the color standard to the industry consensus NTSC standard. The networks invested heavily in color transmission equipment, with the result that, by 1957, 106 of 158 stations in the top 40 cities had the ability to transmit in color, but viewers stayed away: Only three (3%) percent of households had color TV sets in 1963. Color TV did not take hold until the mid-1960s, after prices of sets fell and sufficient content was produced to make color TV attractive to consumers. Of interest was the feud between Paley and Sarnoff (head of RCA). CBS Laboratories and Peter Goldmark developed a method for color television. After lobbying by RCA President David Sarnoff and Paley in Washington, D.C., the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved the RCA color system as the standard, and CBS sold the patents to its system to foreign broadcasters as PAL SECAM. CBS was the last of the three broadcast networks to adopt color television, having to buy and license RCA equipment and technology, taking the RCA markings off of the equipment, and later relying exclusively on Norelco for color equipment beginning in 1964. PAL or Phase Alternating Line, an analogue TV-encoding system, is today a television-broadcasting standard used in large parts of the world.

Quote Of The Day

‘Color television! Bah, I won’t believe it until I see it in black and white.’
Samuel Goldwyn
