This Weekend in 1942, ‘Mrs Miniver‘ was directed by William Wyler, and starring Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon. According to box office records the film was produced with a budget of $1.34 million. The film exceeded all expectations, grossing $5,358,000 in the US and Canada (the highest for any MGM film at the time) and $3,520,000 abroad. In the United Kingdom, it was named the top box office attraction of 1942. The initial theatrical release made MGM a profit of $4,831,000, their most profitable film of the year. Mrs. Miniver won six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (William Wyler), Best Actress (Greer Garson), and Best Supporting Actress (Teresa Wright). The film was ranked number 40 on the American Film Institute’s list celebrating the most inspirational films of all time.
This weekend in 1942, ‘Tangerine‘ Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra with Bob Eberly and Helen O’Connell. The music was written by Victor Schertzinger, the lyrics by Johnny Mercer. The song was published in 1941 and soon became a jazz standard. The recording was released by Decca Records as catalog number 4123. The record first reached the Billboard charts on April 10, 1942, and lasted 15 weeks on the chart, including six weeks at #1. This marked the 4th week at #1 in 1942. The lyrics in this version differ slightly from those in the movie. On the record, Eberly sings “And I’ve seen toasts to Tangerine / Raised in every bar across the Argentine,” the lyric that became standard. In the movie at that point, the line is “And I’ve seen times when Tangerine / Had the bourgeoisie believing she were queen.”

Today, traditional TV still accounts for the lion’s share of video viewing, but online and mobile are where the growth is. When managed together, TV/digital/mobile hold the potential to drive real impact for advertisers—enabling them to maximize the customers they reach and/or reinforce key messaging across screens.
