On this date in 1954, RCA manufactured its first color TV set and began mass production. The first 21 inch color television manufactured by RCA, Model 21CT55. It was available in limited quantities in time for Christmas delivery, 1954. According to the Early Television Foundation, the production was about 3000 units making this television rarer then the 15 inch CT 100 color set introduced in April, 1954, where about 5000 units were made. This 21CT55 is one of about 38 know to exist. The 21CT55 were used as monitors in the first NBC television production studios in NYC and LA beginning 1955
