This Weekend in 1942, ‘Rio Rita‘ was directed S. Sylvan Simon with stars Abbott & Costello, Kathryn Grayson and John Carroll. This was the first of three films that Abbott and Costello made while on loan to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer while under contract to Universal Pictures; the other two pictures being Lost in a Harem and Abbott and Costello in Hollywood. It was filmed from November 10, 1941 through January 14, 1942, and included location shooting near Palm Springs, California. It was during filming that Abbott and Costello had their hand and footprints enshrined at Grauman’s Chinese Theater on the night of Dec. 8, 1941. Abbott and Costello also signed a new agreement regarding their partnership on January 9, 1942. Costello would now earn 60% of their salary with Abbott taking 40%. The film earned $1,927,000 in the US and Canada and $1,293,000 elsewhere during its initial theatrical release, making MGM a profit of $1,340,000. The average ticket price in 1942 was $0.27 per ticket. This meant that 11.926 million fans saw it in theaters.

This weekend in 1942, ‘“Moonlight Cocktail‘ Glenn Miller and His Orchestra with Ray Eberle and the Modernaires was #1 record on Billboard. It was #1 for ten (10) straight weeks. The music was composed by Luckey Roberts with lyrics by Kim Gannon. The song was originally recorded by Glenn Miller and his Orchestra on December 8, 1941, the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. The song had its first public performance in January 1942 on KABC radio in New York City. The 78 rpm disc was released by Bluebird Records as #11401. Vocals were by Ray Eberle and The Modernaires. “Happy in Love” was on the B-side. Netflix now has 75 million streaming subscribers. QQ has 853 million active users. WeChat has 697 million active users while QZone has 640 million. Baidu Tieba has 300 million active users while Viber has 249 million. Sina Weibo has 222 million active users while Line has 215 million. Snapchat has 200 million users and 150 million users are active each day, watching 10 billion videos each day. 88% Of Women Say Social Keeps Brands Honest
Eighty percent of women don’t trust advertising, with 61% saying that’s because brands don’t follow through on promises, a SheSpeaks survey finds. Eighty-eight percent of respondents think their voices on social make brands more transparent.

Women are convinced that social media keeps brands honest, as it has emboldened consumers to speak their minds about brands. 88% of women believe that companies can’t get away with as much as they would like to these days because of it. “The ability to go public immediately with a bad customer service or product experience gives women a powerful sense of reassurance that brands will act in good faith because they will be called out if they don’t,” says Janie Curtis, strategic director at Womenkind.

Seventy-Nine (79%) percent of women say that the demonstrated commitment to doing the right thing drives a brand’s trustworthiness.

The survey also revealed that women are not likely to trust a company or brand just because of its longevity. Whereas 44% of women surveyed said that they were more likely to trust companies that had been around a long time, almost twice as many (71%) said that the use of quality ingredients and the production of quality products lead to greater trust levels. “Our study’s findings are good news for young or emerging brands who have quality products to offer female shoppers,” said Aliza Freud, CEO of SheSpeaks, “Women are much more likely to purchase a brand that is transparent with product ingredients versus one that has just been around for a long time.”

Women offered five ways companies can increase the trust women have in their brands.
