This is the Daily Diary of Screens. On Sunday, May 9, 2015, the 17th day of the May Sweeps Period, CBS was the #1 network in the U.S. as ‘The Good Wife’ was the top program. BBC One was #1 in the UK led by ‘Countryfile’ was the top program. Seven finished #1 in Australia as ‘Nine News Sunday’ was the top program.
Today, traditional TV still accounts for the lion’s share of video viewing, but online and mobile are where the growth is. When managed together, TV/digital/mobile hold the potential to drive real impact for advertisers—enabling them to maximize the customers they reach and/or reinforce key messaging across screens. The Tiffany Network overwhelmed the competition on Sunday finishing in the top spot for the sixth straight night. It also finished 71% ahead of the nearest competitor. At 7P, ’60 Minutes’ led off the evening with an average 8.38 million viewers and a 6.1/12. Then at 8P, another new edition of ’60 Minutes’ drove in an average 8.82 million viewers and a 6.4/11. At 9P, ‘The Good Wife’ in a particularly refreshing episode devoid of the soap opera it has become, finished with an average 9.23 million viewers and a 6.7/11 as Michael J Fox may now be the new partner? And at 10P, the cancelled ‘Battle Creek’ drove in an average 6.26 million viewers 4.0/7. It was good to be CBS on Sunday…or any other day for that matter.
ABC
The Alphabet Network finished #2 but was so far behind it needed binoculars to see the leader. At 7P, ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’ finished with an average 5.91 million viewers and a 3.6/7. At 8P, a two-hour special season finale of ‘Once Upon A Time’ finished with an average 5.42 million viewers and a 3.3/6. At 9P, the series finale of ‘Revenge’ finished with an average million viewers and a 3.5/6. Sunday was not kind to ‘Revenge’.
NBC
The Peacock Network got a break as it had golf to assist it on Sunday. At 7P, an overrun of ‘The Players’ golf tournament saw a three-man playoff with Ricky Fowler winning and drawing an average 6.36 million viewers and a 5.8/12. After Fowler’s winning putt, Sarnoff’s Staff hit rock bottom. At 8P, ‘Dateline’ finished with an average 4.17 million viewers and a 2.8/5. Then at 9P, ‘AD: The Bible Continues’ pulled in an average 4.47 million viewers and a 2.8/5. Then at 10P, the cancelled series ‘American Odyssey’ finished with an average 2.72 million viewers and a 1.8/3.
FOX
The Animal Network of Broadcast animated itself and did not do well on Sunday. At 7P, a rerun of ‘The Simpsons’ drew an average 1.47 million viewers and a 1.0/2. Then at 730P, a rerun of ‘Bob’s Burgers’ drew an average 1.50 million viewers and a 0.9/2. At 8P, ‘The Simpsons’ drew an average 2.78 million viewers and a 1.8/2, the top performance of the evening at Murdochville. At 830P, a non-animated show, ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ drew an average 2.55 million viewers and a 1.6/3. At 9P, a rerun of ‘Family Guy’ drew an average 2.62 million viewers and a 1.5/2. At 930P, an original episode of ‘Bob’s Burgers’ drew an average 2.49 million viewers and a 1.4/2.

NBC finished #3 with an average 4.560 million viewers and a 3.3/6. FOX finished with an average 2.233 million viewers and a 1.4/2. Univision finished with an average 1.286 million viewers and an 0.8/1. Telemundo finished with a 0.7/1.

The Big One had two big programs on Sunday. AT 7P, ‘Countryfile’ got things started with the highest audience of the night as it brought in 6.05 million viewers and 32.1% share of the available audience. then at 8P-10P, ‘The BAFTA Television Awards’ were up over last year’s ratings, as the Graham Norton-hosted ceremony brought in 5.26 million viewers (24.2%). Channel 4 received the most awards, six, including best feature programme for ‘Grand Designs’, which beat ‘The Great British Bake Off’.
ITV
The Independent One at 715P, had ‘Celebrity Squares’ which brought in 1.71 million viewers (8.9%). Then at 8P, ‘Sunday Night at the Palladium’ finished with an average 3.53 million viewers (16.6%). At 9P, the new period drama ‘Home Fires’ fell a bit for its second episode with an average 4.64 million viewers (20.7%) but was the top program on the network on Sunday.
Channel 4
The Big Four, the BAFTA winning network, began at 7P with ‘Three in a Bed’ and it brought in an average 507,000 viewers (3.1%). At 8P, ‘For The Love of Cars’ continued with an average 1.26 million viewers (5.9%). At 9P, the network premiere of ‘Prometheus’ brought in a network high for the evening with an average 1.46 million viewers (8.1%).
Channel 5
The Viacom Five at 8P, ‘Grown Ups’ had an average 1.23 million viewers (5.6%). At 9P, ‘Safe’ brought in an average 587,000 viewers (4.4%).
BBC Two
The Little Two presented at 7P, ‘Britain’s Greatest Generation’ and it was watched by 580,000 viewer (3.1%). At 8P, ‘Hunters of the South’ continued with 1.18 million viewers (5.5%) for the network’s top program of the evening. Then at 9P, ‘Wellington: The Iron Duke Unmasked’ brought in 1.07 million viewers (4.8%). At 10P, ‘Modern Times’ followed with 700,000 viewers (4.4%).
Down Under
Seven
The Second Commercial Network in Australia finished #1 again on Sunday with a 29.8% share of the available audience. #2 was ‘Seven News Sunday’ with 1,154,000 viewers. #4, ‘House Rules-Whole House Reveal’ finished with an average 931,000 viewers. #7 was ‘Sunday Night’ with 728,000 viewers.
Network Nine
The National Nine Network in Australia finished second on Sunday with a 24.2% share and did have the #1 program which was ‘Nine News’ which delivered 1,194,000 viewers. #6 was ‘Reno Rumble’ which drew an average 823,000 viewers. #8, ’60 Minutes’ finished with 700,000 viewers.
Ten
The Third Commercial Network in Australia finished #3 as the top non-news program in the nation was #3, ‘MasterChef Australia’ and it drew 1.146 million viewers. #9 was ABC’s ‘Modern Family’ which drew 667,000 viewers. And #10, ABC’s ‘Shark Tank’ took in 656,000 viewers.

The National Nine Network in Australia finished #1 on Monday as it delivered a 27.8% share of the available audience. #1 was ‘Nine News’ which delivered 1.164 million viewers. #3 was ‘Nine News 6:30’ with 1,097,000 viewers. #6, ‘A Current Affair’ drew a strong 984,000 viewers. #8 was ‘The Big Bang Theory’ which finished with an average 854,000 viewers, as it was the top comedy of the evening in Australia. And, #9 was ‘Reno Rumble’ which finished with 847,000 viewers.
Seven
The Second Commercial Network in Australia finished #2 on Monday as it finished with 25.5% share. The #2 program was ‘Seven News’ with 1,116,000 viewers. #4, ‘Seven News/Today Tonight’ finished with 1,067,000 viewers.
Ten
The Third Commercial Network in Australia finished #3 with a 20.7% share. #5 was ‘MasterChef Australia’ which delivered and average 1,046,000 viewers.
ABC
The Alphabet Network in Australia finished fourth with a 19.9% share. #7 was ‘ABC News’ with 880,000 viewers and #10, ‘Australian Story’ finished with 814,000 viewers.
