ABC #1 Broadcast Net On Monday In The U.S. ITV Tops In The UK. Nine #1 In Australia.

Today, traditional TV still accounts for the lion’s share of video viewing, but online and mobile are where the growth is. From fourth quarter 2012 to fourth-quarter 2013, the hours consumers spent watching online video grew 30%. When managed together, TV/digital/mobile hold the potential to drive real impact for advertisers—enabling them to maximize the customers they reach and/or reinforce key messaging across screens. The Alphabet Network is making a habit of winning on Monday in the broadcast network category. AT 8P, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ drove in 13.379 million viewers and a 9.1/14. It finished 18% ahead of NBC’s ‘The Voice’ in the overnights. And at 10P, ‘Castle’ in one of the most confusing and exceptional episodes ever, drew 9.653 million viewers and a 5.9/10. It finished in a dead heat for #1 in the time slot with ‘The Blacklist’. And, it finally happened. Rick Castle and Kate Beckett finally got married. It was a Must See TV ON DEMAND episode that fans will replay over and over again. NOTE: ABC’s Monday lineup was preempted in Charlotte for local Monday Night Football coverage. As a result, ABC’s ratings may be inflated.

NBC

The Peacock Network powered through on this Monday but there is unknown territory next week. At 8P, ‘The Voice” remained solid with 11.364 million viewers and a 7.5/11. At 10P, ‘The Blacklist’ won the coveted time slot with 9.693 million viewers and a 5.9/10. In, what the Peacockians say is the finale of the season (as they skip cycle the leading 10P Monday program to February, 2015, in time for the Feb Sweeps), it created more questions than answers and it got to the very dark heart of the program. It is what make this program horrid. And, at the same time, it is what makes this program fascinating. It brings new meaning to the talk about Alan Alda exploding on the screen.

CBS

The Tiffany Network has a bit of tarnish on its Monday lineup. At 8P, ‘Broke Girls’ began the evening with 7.643 million viewers and a 5.3/8, which was on par from year-ago occupant ‘How I Met Your Mother’.At 830P, ‘The Millers’ finished with 6.523 million viewers and a 4.2/6. It finished 22% behind the year-ago occupant ‘2 Broke Girls’ (5.4/ 8 on 11/11/13) by 22%. Sean Hayes is kryptonite. At 9P, ‘Scorpion’ finished strong with 10.038 million viewers and a 6.6/10. It very well could be the real deal. In the last of The Great Monday Battle @ 10P, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ finished with 8.175 million viewers and a 5.4/9, which was 64 percent above failed year-ago occupant ‘Hostages’ (4.493 million viewers and a 3.3/ 6 on 11/11/13). It has brought respectability back to Black Rock on Friday’s at 10P. For the evening, CBS was up 22% over a year ago on this date (11.11.13). And that was due to the move placing ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ into The Battle on Monday @ 10P.

FOX

The Animal Network of Broadcast had it winner and loser. At 8P, its winner was the sensational new comic drama, ‘Gotham’ which delivered the network’s top number of the evening, 6.301 million viewers and a 4.6/7. It was an outstanding episode where our hero, Jim Gordon, battles it along then with his partner. It was an absolutely Must See TV ON DEMAND episode. At 9P, the loser, ‘Sleepy Hollow’ although creatively superb could only draw 4.600 million viewers and a 3.1/5, which was down 30% from the 4.4/7 in the overnights on the year-ago evening. Last year, ‘Sleepy Hollow’ pulled 6.96 million viewers. It is safe to say, this loss in viewership is telling everyone that it is running out of steam.

The CW

The Little Network That Couldn’t did and didn’t. At 8P, ‘The Originals’ drew 1.542 million viewers and a 1.2/2). At 9P, ‘Jane the Virgin’ pulled in 1.219 million viewers and a 0.9/1, which is still a stronger option than year-ago occupant, the horrible ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Progress is a slow process. But progress is being made. It was up 11% over last year (11.11.13).

Late Night

At 1135P, ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ finished with 3.0/8; CBS’s ‘Late Show with David Letterman’ had a 2.2/6 and ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ tied ‘Letterman’ with 2.2/6. At 1235A, ABC’s ‘Nightline’ averaged a 1.3/4 while NBC ‘Late Night with Seth Meyers’ had a 1.3/5. CBS’ ‘Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson’ finished with 1.2/4. At 135A, NBC’ ‘Last Call with Carson Daly’ averaged a 0.8/3.

For The Record

ABC was the top broadcast network on Monday with 12.137 million viewers and a 8.2/13. NBC pushed into second place with 10.807 million viewers and a 7.1/11. CBS fell to third on Monday with 8.432 million viewers and a 5.6/9. FOX drew 5.450 million viewers and a 3.8/6. Univision finished with 2.788 million viewers and a 1.5/2. The CW finished with 1.380 million viewers and a 1.0/2. Telemundo finished with 1.3 million viewers and a 0.8/1.

Today In TV History

On this date in 1946, NBC recruits its first television advertiser, Bristol-Myers, for ‘Geographically Speaking’, which has been on air since 27 October. The weekly 15-minute program was one of the first TV shows to have a regular sponsor, Bristol-Myers. The show consisted of hostess Mrs. Carveth (Zetta) Wells narrating her 16mm home movies of her trips with her husband to unusual and exotic places. When she ran out of home movies, the series ended in October 1947. No episode of the series is known to survive in any archive, as it was broadcast live and there was no way to record live TV until the development of kinescopes in 1947. Even then, only a few TV shows were recorded.

The Monday Battle At 10P

It is one of the classic battles in modern television history. Each of the big three networks put up their best at 10P on Mondays and it was, while it lasted, a classic. But it won’t be that way anymore. When ‘The Blacklist’ comes off of hiatus (or whatever NBC is doing to one of their best shows) in February, 2015, it will shift to Thursday evenings at 10P. Next week NBC will throw in a rookie into the battle on Monday against the powerful ‘Castle’ on ABC and ‘NCIS:Los Angeles’ on CBS.

Across The Pond

ITV was #1 in the UK on Monday. At 8P, ‘Countrywise’ brought in 3.05 million viewers (13.3%). Then at 9P, ‘Grantchester’ topped the night outside soaps for its finale episode, as the James Norton drama brought in 4.61 million (20.6%).

BBC One just couldn’t pull it off on Monday. At 730P, ‘Inside Out’ brought in 3.54 million outside in (16.5%). At 830P, ‘Panorama’ gathered every one of the 2.18 million viewers (9.5%) together.

Gareth Malone’s All-Star Choir rose by around 100k to 3.85m (17.2%) at 9pm.

BBC Two presented at 8P ‘University Challenge’ and the professor in all of us drew 2.54 million viewers (11.1%). AT 830P, it was followed by ‘Only Connect’ with slightly less, 2.06 million viewers (9.0%). At 9P, ‘Intruders’ continued intruding with 448,000 breaking artists (2.0%) watching on The Two.

Channel 4 at 8P had ‘How Rich Are You?’ and for those inquisitive people, 1.19 million tuned in (5.2%). At 9P ’24 Hours in Police Custody’ had 1.69 million in handcuffs (7.5%). Then as a complete change of pace, at 10P, ‘8 Out of 10 Cats’ amused 870,000 non-dog lovers (5.6%).

Channel 5 began slowly at 8P as it presented ‘Mysteries of the Bermuda Triangle’ which opened with 786,000 viewers (3.4%). Then at 9P, it was followed by the latest FOX hit, ‘Gotham’ with 1.43 million viewers (6.4%). At 10P, CBS’ ‘Under the Dome’ didn’t do so well with only 663,000 breathing under that plastic bubble (4.1%).

FOX at 9P had AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ as the latest episode drew 622,000 viewers (2.8%).

E4 at 9P presented ‘Made in Chelsea’ and it entertained 594,000 viewers (2.6%).

Sky1 had Micky Flanagan’s ‘DeTour de France’ as 454,000 non-Francofiles watched (2.0%).

Down Under

Network Nine won again on Monday with a solid 27.9% share. The #1 program was ‘The Big Bang Theory’ with 1,274,000 viewers. #2 was a rerun of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ with 1,195,000 viewers. These were the only two 1 million+ viewer programs in Australia on Monday. #3, ‘Nine News 6:30’ with 986,000 viewers. #4 was ‘Nine News’ with 965,000 viewers. The fifth Top Ten program on Monday was #8, ‘A Current Affair’ with 880,000 viewers.

Seven finished second with a 27.5% share. #6 was ‘Seven News’ with 959,000 viewers. #7 was ‘Seven News/Today Tonight’ with 934,000 viewers. #9 was ‘Home and Away’ with 845,000 viewers.

ABC1 finished third with a 22.0% share. #5 was ‘Australian Story’ with 965,000 viewers. #10, ‘ABC News’ finished with 843,000 viewers.

Ten finished fourth with 18.5% share.

SBS finished fifth with 4.2% share.
