The Tiffany Network ran a veteran, all-rerun schedule beginning at 8P of ‘CSI’ and it drew 5.06 million viewers. At 9P, another rerun of ‘Hawaii Five-0’ featuring the beginning of the short arc featuring Dano’s mother drew 4.86 million viewers. At 10P, a rerun of ‘Blue Bloods’ centering on a trip to the museum for Frank; assisting a potential suicide victim for Danny & Erin and asking the question of why after four years hasn’t the youngest been promoted to Detective by Jamie, drew 5.86 million viewers. The Alphabet Network began the evening with a rerun at 8P of ‘Shark Tank’ which drew 5.38 million viewers. At 9P, the season finale of ‘What Would You Do?’ drew 4.45 million viewers. At 10P, ’20/20′ delivered 4.92 million viewers.
The Peacock Network at 8P with a rerun of the latest ‘Running Wild with Bear Grylls’ and it drew 3.02 million viewers. At 9P, a rerun of ‘Dateline’ completed the evening with 5.53 million viewers.
The Animal Network of Broadcast began with a rerun at 8P of ‘MasterChef’ and it drew 3.06 million viewers. At 8P, a rerun of ‘Bones’ drew a FOX high for the evening with 3.34 million viewers. Until Murdoch’s Minions decide to run fresh programming on Friday, they really don’t stand a chance to compete.
On The Little Network That Couldn’t, a 8P they decided to run an original episode of ‘Masters of Illusion’ and it drew 1.59 million viewers. At 830P, a rerun of ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ pulled in 1.48 million viewers. At 9P, to show the power of The Little Network’s latest hit, a rerun of ‘Penn & Teller: Fool Us’ drew 1.70 million viewers. It was a big Friday for the Little Network That Couldn’t.
Ratings on all networks are subject to downward adjustment in the finals due to high-rated local pre-emptions for NFL preseason football.
For The Record
CBS was #1 on Friday with 5.227 million viewers. ABC was #1 with 4.917 million viewers. NBC finished third with 4.696 million viewers. FOX had 3.629 million viewers on Friday. The CW had 1.516 million viewers.

On this date in 1939, a tennis tournament was televised for the first time. IT was the ‘Eastern Grass Court Championship’ matches held at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, NY. Donald Budge defeated Robert Riggs 6-8, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3. Yes, Robert Riggs is the world-famous, ‘Bobby’ Riggs who was one of the world’s top tennis players in the 1940s who held the number 1 ranking and won six major titles. The ‘Eastern Grass Court Championship’ tournament began in 1927, and was later known as the South Orange Open, becoming a Grand Prix affiliated tennis tournament played from 1970 to 1983. To see how good Riggs was, the above video shows him, undefeated that year, winning this tournament in 1938, the year before.

Across The Pond
On an extremely slow night in the UK, BBC One came through with the top network position. At 830P, the documentary ‘Scrappers’ continued to draw with 2.52 million viewers (12.8%). But it was at 9P that the police procedural, ‘Walter’, was the highest-rated primetime offering outside of soaps, pulling in an audience of 2.73 million viewers (14.2%).
ITV at 8P presented ‘The Dales’ and it was the second most popular show of the evening as it reached 2.58 million viewers (13.5%). And at 9P, ‘Doc Martin’ brought in 2.16 million viewers (11.2%).
On BBC Two, At 8P, a new season of ‘Mastermind’ drew 1.46 million viewers (7.6%). At 830P, Kitty Hope and Mark Greenwood’s ‘Sweets Made Simple’ drew 1.44 million viewers (7.3%). At 9P, ‘The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice’ scored impressive audience figures for its debut. The Jo Brand-hosted companion show to The Great British Bake Off had an opening night audience of 2.05 million viewers (10.7%). At 10P, Great British Bake Off co-host Sue Perkins’s opening installment of ‘Edinburgh Nights’ was seen by 536,000 viewers (3.1%).
Channel 5 at 7P, cricket highlights from the second day’s play in the Fourth Test between England and India reached 489,000 viewers (2.7%). At 9P, ‘Big Brother’s’ latest double eviction, in which Winston Showan and Mark Byron departed the show, was seen by an audience of 1.3 million viewers (7%). At 1030P, ‘Bit on the Side’ drew 652,000 viewers (5.2%).
Channel 4 presented the latest episode of the latest episode of Million Pound Drop and drew 824,000 viewers (4.2%). At 9P, episode two of ‘The Singer Takes It All’ was seen by 980,000 viewers (5.1%). While at 10P, ‘The Last Leg’ drew 952,000 viewers (5.9). And at 1050P, Kevin McHale’s ‘Virtually Famous’ drew 349,000 viewers (3.2%).
BBC Three at 9P had a rerun of Taylor Lautner’s ‘Cuckoo’ premiere and it brought in 363,000 viewers (1.9%).
BBC Four presented at 925P, another showing of Rod Stewart documentary ‘Can’t Stop Me Now’ which was seen by 554,000 viewers (3.2%).
On one of the slowest television nights of the year in Australia, where not a single program drew over one million viewers, Seven took the top spot with nearly one-third of the total available audience with 32.1% share. It’s top program finished #2 as ‘Seven News’ drew just 952,000 viewers, 27,000 less than its main rival. #4, ‘Seven News/Today Tonight’ drew 864,000 viewers, 42,000 less than it main competitor. #6, ‘Better Homes and Gardens’ pulled in 762,000 viewers to complete its evening of Top Ten programming.
Nine on the other hand, while drawing a second place share of 30% for the evening, did have more programs in the Top Ten than any other network beginning with the top program and the #1 newscast in the nation, ‘Nine News’ which drew 979,000 viewers. #3 was ‘Nine News 6:30’ which drew 906,000 viewers. #5 was ‘A Current Affair’ which drew 821,000 viewers. #8 was ‘Friday Night NRL LIVE with 645,000 viewers. And #10, ‘Hot Seat’ with 538,000 viewers.
Ten came in third with 16.6% share again showing it has gained momentum by finishing ahead of ABC1 once again. And that is not rarely done on weekends. It had no programming in the Top Ten.
ABC1 on the other hand, finishing fourth, had 16.0% share of the available audience and finished with the remaining two positions in the Top Ten. #7, ‘ABC News’ finished with 654,000 viewers and #9, a rerun of ‘Agatha Christie’s Poirot’ finished with 557,000 viewers.
SBS finished fifth with 4.3% share.
