There is every reason to believe CBS’ Wednesday line up will be intact next year and for year’s to come, as long as the key actors agree to continue in their roles. From the 8P ‘Survivor’, featuring one of the least liked characters in the history of the program, drew 9.77 million viewers to finished #1 in its time slot, good for a 6.2 rating and a 10 share; ‘Criminal Minds’ at 9P brought the network’s high for the evening with 11.62 million and a 7.3/12 and at 10P which was 1 million more viewers than ABC’s ‘Modern Family’. ‘CSI’ won with 10.27 million and a 6.6/10. It was nearly double that of the entire broadcast competition in that time slot. The Tiffany Network finished 37% ahead of their biggest rival of the evening.
ABC didn’t fare as well. At 8P, ‘The Middle’ pulled 8.86 million viewers and a 6.0/10 while at 830P, the cancelled ‘Back In The Game’ was 30% lower with 6.4 million and a 4.2/7. At 9P, ‘Modern Family’ pulled in 10.61 million and a 7.3/12 while at 930P for the top spot on The Alphabet Network’s evening, as ‘Super Fun Night’ could only pull 5.92 million or a 3.9/6. At 10P, ‘Nashville’ finished with 5.43 million, for a 3.9/7, finishing ahead of NBC’s ‘Dateline’.
NBC didn’t have a chance on Wednesday. It began with ‘Revolution’ which was #4 in the time slot at 8P and drew 5.14 million for a 3.5/6. At 9P, ‘Law & Order: SVU’ finished #3 in their time slot with 6.09 million and a 4.4/7, the highest on The Peacock Network for the evening. At 10P, ‘Dateline’ scored with 5.07 million or 4.2/7.
Then there was FOX. ‘The X Factor’ drew only 5.77 million viewers for a 4.3 rating and a 7 share, off 28% from a year ago. The Animal Network of Broadcast simply has to re-examine its Cowellization. Last year on this comparable day, FOX drew 8.09 million viewers. This year’s showing represents a dramatic drop in viewers.
Univision’s ‘Porque el Amor Manda’ at 8P was strong, tripling Telemundo’s ‘Marido en Alquiler’. At 9P, La Tempestad’ finished 57% ahead of rival Telemundo’s ‘La Reina de Sur’. At 10P, ‘Univision’s ‘Mentir para Vivir’ doubled Telemundo’s ‘Santa Diabla’.
The CW at 8P, ‘Arrow’ had 2.99 million viewers, for a 2.1/3 while at 9P, ‘The Tomorrow People’ fell 1.3 million below that number finishing with a 1.69 million viewers and a horrible 1.2/2, , 20% below a year ago occupant ‘Supernatural’.
On Cable, TBS boosted by ‘The Big Bang Theory’ reruns drew an average of 2.482 milion viewers. FX was #2 for the evening with an average 2.075 million viewers with the top show of the cable night as ‘American Horror Story’ drew 4.161 million. ESPN, with NBA doubleheader drew 1.597 million for the first game beginning a 730P and amazingly, a higher viewership of 1.746 million for the second game beginning at 1030P as the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, 111 o 103 as Griffin hit for 22 points for the Clip Joint. Durant topped the game with 33 points.
In late night, ‘Leno’ won again with a 2.9/8 while ‘Letterman’ finished with a 2.4/7 and ‘Kimmel’ had a 1.8/5. At 1235A, ‘Fallon’ finished on top with 1.6/6, followed by ‘Ferguson’ with a 1.3/5 and ‘Nightline’ with a 1.2/4. At 135A, ‘Carson Daly’ averaged a 0.9/4.
For the record, CBS was #1 drew 10.554 million with a household 6.7 rating and an 11 share. ABC finished next with 7.112 million and a 4.9/8; FOX had 5.765 million viewers and a 4.3/7; NBC was next with 5.43 million and a 3.9/7; Univision had a 1.8/3 and The CW had an average of 2.43 million viewers and a 1.7/3. Telemundo had a 0.7/1.
ACROSS THE POND:
ITV’s ‘Poirot’ in the last appearance of David Suchet as Hercule Poirot pulled in a whopping 4.9 million viewers (21.6% share of audience) at 9P. It was 600,000 more than the previous week.
BBC One ‘DIY SOS’ pulled in 4.6 million at 8P, bringing in 20.1% share of the available audience watching television at that time while at 9P, ‘Britain on the Fiddle’ gave ITV a run for its money with 4.04 million viewers (18.2%).
BBC Two had ‘MasterChef: The Professionals’ at 8P and drew 2.8 million (12.2%) while ‘Tudor Monastery Farm’ fell a bit at 9P (considering all of the competition at this hour) to 1.56 milion (7%).
Channel 4 began the evening at 8P with ‘Grand Designs’ with 1.44 million (6.3%) and at 9P, ”24 Hours in A&E’ premier where 2.06 million (9.3% tuned in. At 10P, ‘Googlebox’ fell to 1.54 milion (9%).
Channel 5 at 8P had ‘Animal Clinic’ which only drew 719,000 viewers (3.2%) AT 9P, ‘JFK’s Secret Killer’ drew 1.33 million (6%).
ITV2’s ‘TOWIE’ pulled in 690,000 viewers (4%).

AMC renews ‘Hell on Wheels’ for 13 episode season.

CBS will premiere ‘Intelligence’ a cyber thriller on Tuesday, January 7th at 9P, preempting ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ in order for the new show to have maximum audience sampling following the all-powerful, ‘NCIS’. ‘Intelligence’ will then move to Mondays at 10P, when ‘Hostages’ completes its run on Monday, January 6, 2014, with a two-hour finale at 9-11P.
As noted earlier on http://www.facebook.com/overtheshouldermedia, FXX cancelled the late-night talk show, ‘Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell’ for good reason. Only 12,000 viewers watched its most recent episodes. That’s less than attend a Miami Marlins game.
Lifetime will debut a new series, ‘Under the Gunn’, featuring Tim Gunn in a fashion competition.
AXS TV will broadcast the 20th annual ‘Nobel Peace Prize Concert’, hosted by Clare Danes with performances by Mary j. Blige, James Blunt and Envy on December 11 at 8P.
A&E’s ‘Duck Dynasty’ will debut in France. What a shock this is going to be.
